PRINCIPLES OF THE MONTESSORI METHOD

The Montessori method is very popular around the world with early childhood professionals and parents. The Montessori approach is designed to support the natural development of children in a well-prepared environment.

These principles are:
  • Respect for the child
  • The Absorbent Mind
  • Sensitive Periods
  • The Prepared Environment
  • Autoeducation

Montessori believed that “it's necessary for the teacher to guide the child without letting him feel her presence too much, so that she may be always ready to supply the desired help, but may never be the obstacle between the child and his experience" (Montessori, 1967).
